The Right Read on Your MSDS

Not sure about wording on your MSDS? Look it up on Hach's Glossary of MSDS Terms. Another helpful tool is Hach MSDS Online Request Form. Locate MSDS in soft-copy (PDF) by submitting your part number and formatting/language requirements.

When you receive a reagent shipment from Hach, we recommend
that you:
• Read the MSDS carefully.
• Discuss the cautions specified on the MSDS with your team. You might want to consider an informational program for any non-technical personnel who have access to or may come into contact with chemistries.
• Utilize necessary protective equipment.
• Dispose of the reagent properly (see the MSDS for disposal information).
• Keep MSDS file copies in an accessible, centralized location.

Samplers: Getting Placement Right

1. When deploying the sampler, be sure your intake tubing is as vertical as possible.
2. Eliminate any kinks or low spots in the intake tubing as this can cause problems with volume accuracy.
3. Check that your sampler is level; this will prevent spills and cross contamination.
4. Use the mounting brackets (located diagonally on two of the four leveling feet) to secure your cabinet to a concrete pad or platform.
5. If your location is not in a secure location, be sure to order the optional controller compartment lock to prevent tampering.

Keeping it Clean in Micro Analysis

A general rule of thumb for objects like small bottle caps, Petri lids and the like: If you are going to use it again, don't lay it down.

So how do you keep hold of the cap and keep your hands and fingers free to do the work? One trick: Unscrew a lid or cap with your little finger and outer palm, twisting as you would normally. Hold the cap with your little finger curled around the cap until you are ready to replace it. This allows you to avoid setting the cap down and risking contamination, yet still having the use of your other nine fingers. Since you don't normally use the little finger much, the cap stays out of the way and remains relatively sanitary. The technique requires a little practice, but it can save time once you master it.

2009 Lachat Instrument Update Program

The unprecedented economic situation has had a major impact on analytical laboratories worldwide. Many labs have seen cutbacks in their capital equipment budget, delaying the upgrade of their outdated analytical instrumentation. In order to help labs through these difficult times, Lachat Instruments is introducing a new 2009 Lachat Instrument Update Program.

Make a Greener Choice AND Lower Your Disposal Fees
when Testing for Fluoride

Are you paying high fees for disposal of traditional SPADNS reagents used for fluoride testing? Consider Hach's arsenic-free SPADNS II reagent. SPADNS II works with your existing instruments using the same procedures and programs. In fact, it is equivalent to EPA reference method SM 4500-F D. SPADNS II also avoids carcinogenic arsenic exposure for workers and prevents accidental release into the environment.
• Fluoride reagent solution 500mL | 1000mL | 3.78L
